5th Annual Great Bunkhouse Rubber Ducky Race

Race

Carol took all of the race pictures. This is her picture of the launch platform down at Dena's Creek.

Downstream .

This looks a whole lot better than the last duck race which was in 2011 during the drought!

Upstream.

Okay, November is not the usual month for the duck race; so, was a little nippy. However...the temperature had risen to 72 degrees...positively balmy! Would the wussies go into the water?!! NO! I had to go in BY MYSELF and launch the ducks and then pick them up at the finish line.

I began herding the ducks.

First thing, the virgin bride duck flips...the peanut gallery said that they knew her being a virgin was too good to be true! She would flip for anything in sight!

The next thing we knew, Dorro flips over and loses his hat which was deep-sixed in Dena's creek!

The spectators cheer the ducks on!
Well, who would have thought?!! Mary Friday's "Burqa Susie Duck" was far and away the fastest duck and won the race!
The winner!
I asked for a moment of silence for Dorro's hat which I COULD NOT see down below!
I was reminded of George Strait's song "I'm Not as Good as I Once Was" when I tried to get out of the creek! Sigh...this getting old is for the birds!
Luckily, Dena had brought a couple towels down for me! I was a little wet!
I thought I should share my good fortune with Mary, the winner! She was not that pleased!!!
The Pea-King Duck got bushwhacked in the stream! I told Carrie that I really thought his balls would fall off once they hit the water. She indignantly let me know that those pom-poms WERE NOT BALLS! They were peas! HA!
The same group minus the Friendswood girls and plus Carol Hoyland!
That's me Nancy Lee, Kathy Hammond in the back, Dena Wenmohs (holding her camouflage duck (I forgot to take a close up of her duck and she just threw the poor thing away!), Mary Friday, Connie McMahan, Doris Thompson, and Carrie Wright. After the race!
