2nd Annual Great Bunkhouse Rubber Ducky Race
The herding team seemed to enjoy their work. On a hot summer's day, this spring fed creek was WONDERFUL! At the end of each day of the retreat we would p[ile into Dena's SUV and go down to the ole' swimming hole!
Cypress Creek runs for one mile through Dena's ranch. However...it does not run fast! It is spring fed and is a beautiful creek but not a really great one for a duck race! The herding team commenced herding the ducks and had several bias complaints from onlookers on the shore!
The Duck Release team consisted of Mary Barnes, Linda Wells, JoAnne DeShong and Marchita Priest. They took a foam "noodle" along to act as a starting gate and later a "herding" device and got all their ducks in a row. After they were ready, JoAnne led us in the Star Spangled Banner (wisely, I took along ear plugs!). Then the ducks were released.
It was a photo finish, but , in the end, Lynn Chtaman's duck "Mexi Duckin Donut" won (minus its sombrero). My Moby Duck came through like 6th and sideways!
The Duck Retrieval Team consisted of Dena , John (Dena's Grandson), and myself. It was a tough duty but someone had to do it! I wore my umbrella hat so that my hair wouldn't get wet. It didn't work all that well! Dena had a hard time keeping John at the finish line. He got a little impatient when the ducks were so VERY slllloooooowwww!
Mary Barnes attempts to get some "clumped" ducks separated and on the go!
Lynn Chatman won the grand prize which consisted of last year's ducky trophy with the "1st Annual" scratched out and "2nd Annual" penned in. Dena had some awards for everyone and gave out art panels and brushes. Lynn also got a "Pet Stick" designed by Linda Wells which Lynn shows in this photo.
