Ranch Rock Race 2010 - 1st Furlong

The rock race consisted of 3 furlongs. The 1st furlong was to be a rock throw contest. I had drawn a target on the road with a shovel. It consisted of several concentric circles. The jockeys were to throw their steeds into the target and would gain points based upon where the steeds landed.

We were ready to begin and Ann Pfeiffer had to take a restroom break. While she was in the Bunkhouse, the Nederland girls thought we should fine Ann 1 or 2 points for delay of race depending...Ann expressed the opinion when she rejoined us that she had never before been fined 2 points for going to the bathroom! After the laughter stopped, we started in on the 1st furlong.

Mary Blain was first up. Roscoe was there "helping". I think that dirty rat Mary had been practicing a little since last year or somehow cheated, because she threw the rock right into the middle of the 50 point bullseye!

Shirley Blevins stepped up to the starting line, and everyone stepped back several feet! It was a well-known fact that Shirley could not throw worth a damn and was libel to knock one of the other jockeys or the donkeys senseless.

Her throw was much better than last year and she managed to get 10 points.
Ann Pfeiffer was a good sport about all this since she was already down 2 points and managed to score 5 points! I dropped my pen in the dirt and it ceased to function. They threatened to fine the scorekeeper 20 points for dirt on pen and delay of race, but no one would go get another pen!Finally after much jeering and booing (Geesh! Artists can get REALLY rowdy!) Ann went to get another pen from her car. I gave her 50 points for "Helping Scorekeeper"!
Marchita went next and managed to score. I left the score sheet out at the Bunkhouse so cannot remember what she scored, but it DID hit the target somewhere!
Ann Hoffpauir also managed a decent score. Not even close to Mary's 50, but decent!
Pat Lynch was next.
Debra Latham came next and scored 5, I think! HA!
Patty had pretty good form but did not come close to Mary's 50 point Bullseye!
Barbara Haviland was next. She also hit the target but could not beat Mary's 50 Points! Dena was very brave (or stupid) to stand that close to an artist with a loaded rock!
Barbara Rogers threw a decent score but no where near Mary's 50 points...sigh!
Dena Finally got the rock back, but Roscoe then took off with Ann Pfeiffer's rock. When he dropped that , he grabbed Debra's rock. Roscoe was having a FINE time and the scoring was a trifle hard to do when the rocks kept getting kidnapped. Then Roscoe took exception to Mary Blain's steed stick and put several tooth marks in her great design! She had to play "Tug-of-war" to get the stick back and everyone was laughing so hard it took a while to start the 2nd furlong!
Dena threw her rock onto the target somewhere but Roscoe thought she was playing "Fetch" and took off with the rock. I told her that she got no points until Roscoe brought back the rock. She was occupied the rest of the 1st furlong chasing Roscoe.
I left the score sheet at the Bunkhouse, so I don't the actual scores, but , suffice it to say,that sneaky Mary won the 1st furlong!
