And in Between, we had some fun!

Chocolate Critters!
Debra cooked spaghetti with meat sauce for Friday night's dinner. We usually eat WELL at these retreats!
Ann Pfeiffer lived in nearby Fredericksburg and would bring really FATTENING treats everyday! These were her chocolate critters! They are chocolate covered strawberries. And then there was the day she brought 7 POUNDS of homemade fudge...ooooooo....
This is Dena's studio at her house. She has quite a HUGE collection of paintings from various artists that teach at the Bunkhouse and , of course, her own paintings which are quite distinctive in style!
Dena out in the field. She took me out to show me where there were pink and orange cactus blossoms. We only spent about 30 minutes out there and I came back with 237 spear grass spikes in my socks and sneakers! Dena was tough though, she was out there in sandals. I asked her how she managed to avoid the spear grass spikes. She said she had them trained to only spear Yankees. Oh...well...that explains THAT anyway! HA!
The front porch of the Bunkhouse is a great place to sit and relax. The Bunkhouse is a restored 1890s homestead.
This is Mama wren!
Marchita took this picture of her setup. She did plein aire painting around the ranch. Dena's miniature donkeys were "helping" her and giving a critique!
Mary took this picture of Shorty. Shorty stays on the front porch. Dena got him in trade for one of her paintings. Notice his hat. It is home to a mother wren and her babies!!
Mary got this picture of the baby birds now living in Shorty's hat (He's probably mortifed...it's just not a cowboy thing to have birds nesting in your hat!).
Dena was able to paint with us as l for a while. At other times she was trying to rid of of a wildlife problem!
I think it makes a statement, don't you?!
