Around the Ranch - May 2009

The scenery around the Wenmohs Ranch is always beautiful and is particulary so in May when the cactus are blooming! This year, because it has been so dry, the cactus were not as impressive as they were a couple years ago when I was out there, but they were still pretty! These are some pictures I took this year.
A walk in the pasture resulted in picking up 212 spear grass spikes in my sneakers and socks!
The ole' barn!
After the rain...a VERY infrequent occurrence!
Dena said that the spikes grow really long when there is not enough water. I took the picture below in May 2004 when the rain was more plentiful. Notice that the spikes are smaller and less plentiful.
If you look closely, you can see Jenny Briganti up the creek! Dena's creek is spring fed and runs for a mile through the ranch. The water is not usually this brown, but the rain storm brought in some silt. It IS still clear, though!
Dena's nosey donkeys, help us unload!
Relaxing on the front porch of the Bunkhouse!
Good news for the ranch - RAIN!
Cow Path...
If you look closely, you will see two donkeys who RAN to get out of the rain and into the "Meditation" room which used to be the old smoke house.
